Eviction filing data are sourced from county court records, in partnership with the The Eviction Lab at Princeton University. We are grateful to Fulton County for providing direct access to their records. For questions about this tool, please email Will Wright, lead developer on the project.
These data capture formal eviction filings, which do not necessary result in a dispossession. However, eviction filings serve as a useful proxy for housing instability, both in capturing a legal moment of housing precarity and given that eviction filings go on a tenant's record and can make finding future housing difficult. In addition, the data do not reflect informal evictions or forced moves. Research has found that forced moves due to illegal evictions and informal evictions are far larger than the number of tenants displaced through the legal, formal eviction process. The foundation of this tool was built by dedicated developers and subject matter experts. Their decisions, creative solutions, and attention to detail continue to influence this version. The core concepts and user-centered approach remain rooted in the original vision.
